‘Cats Wrap Up Day Three at Big Tens

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Northwestern men's swimming and diving team wrapped up day three of action in Iowa City at the Big Ten Championships.
During the third day of competition, the Wildcats earned a total of eight finals spots and 27 personal best times.
Sophomore Liam Gately was the top NU finisher in the 200 free, finishing 19th overall and adding six points to the #B1GCats total. Robert Cecil, Peter Lewczyk and Colin Murphy also finished in personal best times in the 200 free.
Led by senior Arjun Sharma's C-final qualification in the 100 fly, the 'Cats also had PR's from Ryan Tate, Ezra Mizgala, Brandon Kulik and Patrick Gridley. In the 400 IM, Northwestern had two swimmers qualify for the evening finals, with Jeffrey Durmer and Tyler Lis finishing 10th and 20th overall respectively. Senior Justin Hanson also swam a new personal best in the 400 IM.
Senior Will Hofstadter had the highest NU finish in the 100 breast, finishing 16th overall to score 11 points in the B-final. Three other 'Cats, Thanas Kountroubis, Henry Blaul and Lyon Zhang also swam personal best times in the 100 breast.
Ryan Gridley was the top Wildcat in the 100 back, finishing 13th overall. First-year Manu Bacarizo, Jack Thorne, Andrew Zhang, P. Gridley and Kulik also set new personal bests in the 100 back prelims.
In the 3M dive, senior Ben Magliato scored four NU points and was a top 25 finisher.
Northwestern wrapped up competition with an eighth place podium finish in the 200 free relay. With team the team of Keegan Bundy, A. Zhang, Hofstadter and R. Gridley touching in a time of 1:19.42 for a new seasons best and 44 points for the 'Cats.
The final day of competition begins Saturday morning with prelims of the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and the platform dive. The final session of the meet will include finals of each event, as well as the 1650 free and 400 free relay.
