‘Cats Bring Home PRs on Day Two of Big Tens

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Northwestern men's swimming and diving team took to the pool for the second day of competition at the 2019 Big Ten Championships.
The relay team of Ryan Gridley, Will Hofstadter, Arjun Sharma and Andrew Zhang touched in 3:09.98 to claim a season-best time and score 44 points for the Wildcats in the 400 medley relay.
In the prelims, Chicago's Big Ten Team totaled 16 personal bests and a B-cut across just the three events.
In the 500 free, the 'Cats saw PRs from DJ Hwang, Jeff Durmer and Colin Murphy. In the 200 IM, Tyler Lis was the highest NU finisher at 26th. First-year Henry Blaul and senior Justin Hanson also swam personal best times.
Led by Zhang's top 40 finish, Northwestern tallied nine new personal bests in the 50 free from Keegan Bundy, Will Hofstadter, Ezra Mizgala, Sharma, Ryan Tate, Peter Lewczyk, Robert Cecil and Thanas Kountroubis.
On the diving board, first-year Evan Labuda was the top Wildcat finisher, adding seven points to their day two total.
Day three of competition will include prelims and finals for the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 3M dive. The evening session of Friday's competition will also include the finals of the 200 free relay.
