‘Cats Shine on Day 1 of Big Tens

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Within the first two races of meet, the Northwestern men's swimming and diving team has already shaken up the Wildcat record book at the 2019 Big Ten Championships.
The 200 medley relay team of first-year Ryan Gridley, seniors Will Hofstadter, Arjun Sharam and first-year anchor Andrew Zhang touched in a time of 1:25.61, dropping over three seconds on their previous season best time. The relay finished six overall, scoring 48 team points and was the second fastest 200 medley in NU history.
The final event of the evening was the 800 medley relay which finished in a new school record time of 6:25.61, nearly nine seconds off of their previous season-best time. The team of R. Gridley and sophomores Liam Gately, Robert Cecil and Peter Lewczyk finished eighth overall and scored 44 points.
Prelims for the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and the 1M Dive will take place in the Thursday morning session, which is set to begin at 11:00 am. Finals for all four events and the 400 medley relay will be a part of the evening session starting at 6:30 pm.
