Riley and Northwestern came out of the gates strong Tuesday afternoon at the San Luis Obispo Country Club thanks in part to the play of Riley and senior Stephanie Lau.
The pair were each 2-under through five holes to move the Wildcats atop the leaderboard, but the 'Cats were unable to hold on in the 15-team field.
NU shot 16-over as a team in the final round and finished fifth overall with a three-day score of 905 (+41). Stanford won the annual tournament at 31-over.
First-year Kelly Sim led the Wildcats in the third-round with a 3-over, 75. Sim posted her second-consecutive 75, bouncing back from her first round 80, to finish tied for 29th.
Lau shot a 5-over, 77, in the final round and finished the tournament tied for 12th at 10-over, while senior Janet Mao shot a 4-over, 76, in the final round to finish tied for 23rd at 13-over.
The Wildcats will be back in action March 8-9 at the Darius Rucker Invitational in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
