
Wildcats Finish Strong at Big Ten Championships

MAINEVILLE, Ohio — Northwestern caught fire on the back nine to post the lowest score of the final round and finish sixth at the 2019 Big Ten Women's Golf Championships at TPC River's Bend Sunday.
The Wildcats made 15 birdies and an eagle on the back nine en route to finishing 8-under on the day and 6-over for the tournament. The 2019 Big Ten Championship was limited to 36 holes due to weather canceling the second round on Saturday.

Junior Brooke Riley capped the scoring frenzy with an eagle on the par-5 18th hole to shoot a 4-under, 68, in the final round. Riley made the turn at 1-under behind a trio of birdies and also had a birdie on the No. 12. She played the 36-hole championship even par to finish tied for eighth.
Despite a slow start to her final round that included a bogey on No. 1 and a double bogey on No. 3, senior Stephanie Lau responded by shooting 4-under over her final 15 holes Sunday. Lau was 2-over at the turn, but made three birdies on the back to finish with a 1-under, 71, and close the tournament 1-over to finish tied for 11th.
First year Kelly Sim continued her impressive rookie campaign in her first conference championship, carding a 2-under, 70, in the final round. Sim was 1-over at the turn, but made three-straight birdies on No. 11, No. 12 and No. 13. She finished the tournament tied for 18th at 2-over.
Fellow first year Jane Lu rounded out the scoring for the Wildcats in the final round with a 1-under, 71. Lu was 8-over in the first round of the tournament, but was key in the 'Cats moving up three spots on the final day. After moving to 2-over with a bogey on No. 10, Lu responded with three birdies down the stretch, including her final of the day on No. 18 after nearly making an eagle on her approach from 40 yards.
First year Kelly Su also was impressive in her final round of the tournament, closing with a birdie of her own on No. 18 to shoot an even-par, 72.
Ohio State claimed the 2019 conference title with a 36-hole score of 1-under (575).
The 2019 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships selections announcement will take place this Wednesday, April 24 at 5:30 p.m. ET, on Golf Channel's Golf Central and streamed live on the Golf Channel website. Seventy-two teams and 24 individuals will be selected to compete at one of four regional championships, each featuring 18 teams and six individuals, May 6-8. From regional competition, 24 teams and 12 individuals will advance to the national championships to be played May 17-22 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The four regional sites include Tumble Creek Golf Club in Cle Elum, Washington, hosted by the University of Washington; Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma, hosted by the University of Oklahoma; Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Michigan, hosted by Michigan State University and Greater Lansing Sports Authority; and Saugahatchee Country Club in Opelika, Alabama, hosted by Auburn University.
This year's women's golf championships will be broadcast for the fifth consecutive year by Golf Channel with more than 100 news and tournament hours planned again for the men's and women's golf championships
