EVANSTON, Ill.– The Northwestern women's basketball team [15-12, 8-8] will host Indiana [18-10, 7-9] on Tuesday, Feb. 26 for Senior Night as the 'Cats honor senior captain, Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah in the final home game of the regular season. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
Kunaiyi-Akpanah recorded her 1,000th career rebound on Feb. 21 against Nebraska, joining Nia Coffey as the only two Wildcats to accomplish the feat. Kunaiyi-Akpanah finished the contest with a team high 19 points and 12 rebounds en route to her 15th double-double of the season. Her performance against the Huskers brings her career rebound total to 1,010 and earned her Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll for the second time this season ahead of Tuesday night's matchup.
The 6'2'' forward has shattered record after record in her four years as a Wildcat. Her 11.9 rebounds per game in her junior year is the highest rebounding average in Wildcat history. This season, her 11.2 rebounds per game is the third highest average in the Big Ten. Kunaiyi-Akpanah also owns the Northwestern single season rebound record after pulling down 381 boards last year and set a school record for the second most rebounds in an individual game with 21 versus Oakland (Nov. 16, 2017).
Kunaiyi-Akpanah's 15 double-doubles in her senior campaign is good for the second most in the conference and ranks 13th in the nation. She has the opportunity to challenge her mark of 18 last season, which is tied for first all-time in the program.
The Wildcats look to bounce back from a 71-64 loss to Nebraska. Lindsey Pulliam poured in 14 points for her 26th consecutive double-digit point performance. The sophomore's 16.6 scoring average is the fourth-highest in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers enter Tuesday's contest after putting an end to a four-game skid, rallying back from a 16-point deficit to upset No. 10 Iowa, 75-73.
Northwestern and Indiana have split the last six matchups, but the 'Cats have the momentum. Northwestern topped then No. 25 Indiana, 75-69, on Jan. 16 in Bloomington. Pulliam posted a season-best 27 points, while Kunaiyi-Akpanah added a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
