COLUMBUS, OH. – The No. 2 Northwestern fencing team captured its second consecutive Midwest Fencing Conference Championship on Sunday for its sixth overall title. The Wildcats dominated the competition, taking home the weapon group titles in all three events for the first time in program history.

"All season, I've been so proud of how this team has trained and worked together as a unit," said head coach Zach Moss. "It's awesome to see that work pay off and for our team to dig deep to come up with such impressive wins."

Northwestern faced No. 8 Ohio State in the championship round in all three weapons. In the first clash of the day, the saber squad started with an automatic bid to the quarterfinals. After defeating Purdue and Wayne State, Maddy Curzon, Alexis Browne and Emine Yücel would take on the Buckeyes. The final match once tied at 3-3 but Yücel and Curzon closed in on the victory, 5-3 for the saber title.

In foil, Northwestern blazed through the bracket after defeating Lawrence and Wayne State. When it came down to the final match, the trifecta of Yvonne Chart, Alyssa Chen and Sarah Filby handled the Buckeyes in a convincing 5-1 win to give Northwestern its sixth Midwest Fencing Conference Championship.

Even with the conference title, the Wildcats had one more event left. In the trilogy match, épéeists Maggie Snider, Pauline Hamilton and Julia Falinska came back from a 1-4 deficit in the final round to win four in a row, completing the sweep of the Buckeyes, 5-4.

This is Northwestern's second MFC title under head coach Zach Moss. Northwestern has earned the highest ranking in program history at No. 2. at 39-5, and captured its highest duals winning percentage (.886) since the 2009-10 campaign.
