Wildcats Fall to Tenth-Ranked Lions

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern men's tennis fell to No. 10 Columbia Sunday afternoon in a match in New York City.
There was plenty of exciting action in doubles play to start the contest, with matchups at both No. 1 and No. 2 coming down to the final game. Wildcat duo Nick Brookes and Simen Bratholm took on Jack Lin and Jackie Tang, the 12th-ranked doubles team in the nation, at the top spot. Brookes and Bratholm led by two games before the Lions were able to tie it at 6-6 and force a tiebreaker, which they then won to take the set.
At No. 2 doubles, the teams were also tied at six games apiece, but the match went unfinished as Columbia clinched the first team point of the match.
In singles play, Dominik Stary impressed against the No. 65 player in the nation, Victor Pham. Stary dropped a tight first set before cruising to a 6-0 win in the second, forcing a deciding final frame. In the third, Pham was able to pull out the victory for the home squad.
At No. 4 singles, Chris Ephron played an exciting match against Austen Huang which also came down to the wire. Huang took the opening set by a score of 7-5 before Ephron triumphed in the second to send it to a third. In a 10-point superset to decide the matchup, Huang edged out a 10-8 result in what was the final action of the afternoon.
Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back in action on Friday, March 1, traveling to Indiana to face the Hoosiers at 5 p.m. CT.
