ON THE SHORES OF LAKE MICHIGAN — Northwestern wrestling ended their season with a dual victory over SIUE on Saturday afternoon at the first-ever dual at the new Ryan Fieldhouse.
For the first time in his career, redshirt junior Zack Chakonis (197) notched back-to-back pins, as he topped Illinois' Andre Lee with win by fall last weekend. He defeated SIUE's Christian Dulaney in four minutes, giving NU a 6-0 advantage to start the dual.
Redshirt senior Conan Jennings (285), the 14th-ranked heavyweight in the nation, was also dominating, shutting out Jake McKiernan, 11-0. Jennings finishes his senior regular season with a 15-8 mark, including nine dual wins.
Redshirt sophomore Sebastian Rivera (125), the top-ranked 125-pounder in the nation, posted a commanding, 19-4 tech fall win (5:50) over Gage Datlovsky. Rivera ends his second season with an unblemished 22-0 mark at 125 pounds. Sixteen of his 22 wins came via bonus point victories.
Sophomore Colin Valdiviez (133) was as effective as he was speedy, earning his third tech fall wn of the season in just over two minutes over SIUE's Austin Macias.
Redshirt junior Alec McKenna (141) ended the first half of the dual by pitching an 8-0 shutout over SIUE's Lucas Bernal, extended the NU leads to 24-0 before the intermission.
Junior Shayne Oster (149) delivered NU's third tech fall of the afternoon, a 19-4 drubbing of Tyshawn Williams (6:10). The win was Oster's fourth tech fall of the season.
