Wildcats Dominate Baylor, 5-2, to Open Weekend Action

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern opened a pair of weekend matches with an emphatic 5-2 victory over Baylor on Friday evening at Combe Tennis Center.
The Wildcats got off to a strong start to open the match as Caroline Pozo and Rheeya Doshi cruised to a 6-0 victory at No. 3 doubles, moving their record as a team to a perfect 6-0 on the season.
Soon after, the No. 59 ranked pairing of Clarissa Hand and Lee Or picked up a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles, clinching a doubles point for the 'Cats. Hand and Or are now 5-3 when playing doubles together this season.
The 'Cats extended their lead to 2-0 following a 6-0, 6-2 victory by Carol Finke at No. 6 singles as she improved her record to 3-0.
In the No. 1 singles competition, No. 59 Hand faced off against No. 70 Livia Kraus. Hand narrowly took the first set, 7-5, before rolling to a 6-1 victory in the second set to pick up another singles point for Northwestern.
Pozo clinched the match for the 'Cats with a victory in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. She is now 8-2 in singles matches this season.
Also finishing with a singles win was Or, who rallied after dropping the first set, 4-6, with a 6-4 victory in the second set followed by a 10-6 victory in a third set tiebreak to secure another point.
Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back in action on Sunday afternoon as they travel to Atlanta to face off against Georgia Tech beginning at 2 p.m. CT.
