’Cats Finish Strong, Su Posts First Top-15 Finish of the Season

RIO MAR, P.R. — The 15th-ranked Northwestern women's golf program matched the lowest team score of round three and first year Kelly Su carded her first round under par of her collegiate career Tuesday to finish tied for 15th at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
The Wildcats shot a 3-under, 285, Tuesday morning to move up four spots and finish fourth in the 14-team field with a 54-hole total of 879. Kent State claimed the team title with a 2-over, 266.

A day after shooting a season-best even-par 72, Su bested herself on Tuesday with a 1-under, 71, to lead the 'Cats. Su played consistent golf all day long, recording 15 pars, a pair of birdies and and just one bogey to move up 11 spots on the leaderboard and post her first career top-15 finish.
Junior Brooke Riley and first year Jane Lu were just one shot back of Su at the conclusion of the tournament, finishing tied for 18th at 5-over. Riley bounced back with a strong finish on Tuesday, posting a team-best five birdies to shoot a 1-under, 71.
Lu, who also posted a collegiate-best 70 in round two, was impressive yet again in the final round with an even-par, 72.
Senior Janet Mao also bounced back from a disappointing second round with her fifth round of par or better this season. Mao matched Riley's team-best five birdies on the day to shoot 1-under in the final round and finish tied for 34th at 8-over in the tournament.
The Wildcats will be back in action in two weeks when they travel to San Luis Obispo, California, for the Bruin/Wave Invitational.
