Northwestern Outlasted by Minnesota, 73-64 in Overtime Battle

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Jordan Hamilton tallied 20 points and a career high five steals, but Northwestern fell to Minnesota in overtime, 73-64 in Williams Arena.
Northwestern held the Golden Gophers to just eight points in the fourth quarter after trailing by as many as 14 on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats chipped away at the deficit to go on a 9-0 run to lead, 58-54 with 59 seconds remaining in regulation but Minnesota's Kenisha Bel made a late basket to tie the game and force overtime.
Abi Scheid played all 45 minutes and racked up 18 points to go along with eight rebounds in front of her hometown crowd. The junior captain shot 4-for-6 from beyond the arc with 10 points in the first half.
Lindsey Pulliam added 10 points for her 23rd consecutive double-digit scoring game which is now the seventh longest streak in Northwestern history.
Veronica Burton contributed eight points and made two free throws that were crucial in keeping the Wildcats within reach in the fourth quarter. Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah put up six points, pulled down eight rebounds and tied a career high in assists with three.
Northwestern is now 14-10 overall with a 7-6 mark in conference play. Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 14 to take on Penn State in Welsh-Ryan Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT.
