EVANSTON, Ill. – With final exams complete and Northwestern University on the verge of its winter recess, Wildcats student-athletes have wrapped up a record-setting quarter in the classroom. Across 19 varsity programs, the average team grade point average (GPA) of 3.359 is the best fall mark in history.
Â
"While our Wildcats deservedly earn acclaim for success in competition, their academic results are remarkable and continue to raise the standard," said Combe Family Vice President for Athletics & Recreation Jim Phillips. "Northwestern is one of premier academic institutions in higher education, the continued excellence displayed by our young men and women is a testament to their character, intelligence and work ethic, as well as the culture created here by President Schapiro and Provost Holloway."
Â
Northwestern's more than 500 student-athletes compiled an average 3.348 GPA, the highest on record for a fall term. The group was led by 26 Wildcats who posted perfect 4.0 GPAs, and more than 80% of the student-athlete community exceeded a 3.0 during the quarter.
Â
The Wildcats also paced the Big Ten with a school-record 127 Academic All-Conference honorees during the fall, and Northwestern's 98% NCAA Graduation Success Rate led all Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) institutions for a second consecutive year.
