Northwestern Wrestling kicks off its regular season this Sunday, November 10, at noon when Matt Storniolo's squad travels to Virginia Tech for the Hokies "Mat on the Mound" showdown taking place at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park. When Northwestern and Virginia Tech faced off last season, the Wildcats came away with a defining win against the then No. 10 ranked Hokies in their first match at the new Welsh-Ryan Arena, one of three top-25 victories secured during the 2018-19 campaign.
Last season, the Wildcats sent five qualifiers to the NCAA Championships for a second-consecutive year, with Ryan Deakin (157 lbs) and Sebastian Rivera (125 lbs) each earning All-American nods. Both Deakin and Rivera return for their junior seasons in 2019-20, and will be joined by an exciting group of Wildcat grapplers that includes 2019 Junior World Championships silver medalist Lucas Davison (197lbs), seniors Alec McKenna (141 lbs) and Shayne Oster (149 lbs), and sophomore Tyler Morland (174 lbs).
