'Cats Host Lewis in Exhibition Wednesday at Welsh-Ryan Arena

EVANSTON, Ill. – The Northwestern women's basketball team will play an exhibition match Wednesday at Welsh-Ryan Arena against the Lewis Flyers. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT and admission is free.
The Wildcats are coming off of a trip to the WNIT Championship game in a 21-win season in 2018-19. The 'Cats have four starters back as part of a returning cohort of 13 players.
Head coach Joe McKeown added two first-years to the squad in Laya Hartman and Kaylah Rainey, who was the 14th ranked guard in her graduating class.
Senior Abi Scheid, junior Lindsey Pulliam, and sophomore Veronica Burton have been named this year's captains. They combined for 34.9 PPG and 100.1 MPG last season.
Pulliam was named to the Preseason All-Big Ten Team this October as a unanimous coaches' selection. She also earned a spot as one of 20 on the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List, given annually to the best shooting guard in the nation.
McKeown also enters the 2019-20 season just nine wins away from his 700th career win. He returns all of his assistant coaches from last season in Tangela Smith, Kate Popovec and Preston Reid.
The Lewis Flyers finished 27-5 last year with a 16-2 record in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. They lost in the NCAA Midwest Regional to Grand Valley State University by a score of 72-55.
In last year's exhibition matchup between the 'Cats and Flyers, the Wildcats won the game by a strong margin with a score of 84-69. Abi Scheid was the leading scorer with 22 points in the game.
The Wildcats' season opener will be at home at Welsh-Ryan Arena against Loyola Maryland on Sunday, Nov. 10th at 3:30 p.m.
