Drohan Welcomes Three Additions to Class of 2024
11/13/2019 4:32:00 PM | Softball
EVANSTON, Ill. – Head Coach Kate Drohan announced the addition of three talented student-athletes to the incoming Class of 2024 on Wednesday.
"We are thrilled to welcome Lauren, Hannah and Halle to the Wildcat family. First and foremost, they are excellent students and we are honored they chose to represent Northwestern. Their athleticism, versatility and offensive production will make an immediate impact on our program. Their skillsets will fill an important need for our program and we are looking forward to working with them everyday."
The three newcomers will augment an impressive foundation in Evanston, with the Wildcats coming off a 2019 campaign that included an NCAA Super Regional appearance and National Freshman of the Year honor. Drohan was recognized as the 2019 Big Ten Coach of the Year after leading the Wildcats to a program-record 21 Big Ten wins and, alongside her twin sister and Associate Head Coach, Caryl, secured a 600th career victory.
This spring Northwestern returns all but two players from last year's NCAA Regional Championship team, including the reigning NFCA and Big Ten Freshman of the Year, pitcher Danielle Williams, as well as All-Big Ten honorees Jordyn Rudd, Rachel Lewis and Maeve Nelson.
Complete details on the Wildcats 2020 signing class are below.
Lauren Boyd – P/IF
Hits: R
Throws: R
Union, Missouri
Union High School
Drohan on Boyd: Lauren is an incredible athlete who can play any infield position in addition to being a dominant presence in the circle. She is the latest in an established Northwestern tradition of athletic pitchers who will hit in the heart of the lineup and offer us great defensive versatility. Lauren is a tremendous competitor and even better teammate.
Before Northwestern: Two-time All-Four Rivers Conference and All-District honoree at Union High School… Earned First-Team All-State honors following her rookie season with the Wildcats, earned First Team All-State and Conference Player of the Year honors after hitting .485 with 23 RBI to go along with a 0.23 ERA and 157 strikeouts while walking just two batters in 92.0 innings pitched…Was club teammates with current Wildcats Sydney Supple and Ashley Shultz on the Beverly Bandits… Daughter of Julie and Larry Boyd.
Hannah Cady – C
Hits: L
Throws: R
Clarkston, Michigan
Clarkston High School
Drohan on Cady: Hannah is a terrific leader who can be a 'point guard' on the field whether she is at shortstop, behind the plate, or in the outfield. She is a left-handed hitter who will swing for power and put stress on opposing defenses with her athleticism on the basepaths.
Before Northwestern: Three-year varsity starting catcher and two-time captain at Clarkson High School…Earned All-League and All-District honors in each of her first three seasons at Clarkston…Named First Team All-State and an NFCA Third Team All-American following her sophomore season in which she hit .577 with 52 RBI and eight homers…Earned First Team All-State Honors for a second-consecutive season after her junior year in which she hit .554 with 77 RBI, eight homers and 60 runs scored, was also named to ExtraInnings Softball First Team All-American team following her junior campaign…Intends to major in Biology/Pre-Med…Daughter of Jack Cady & Petra Cady
Halle Mangurten – IF
Hits: R
Throws: R
Deerfield, IL
Deerfield High School
Drohan on Mangurten: Halle is really fun to watch in the batter's box. She takes great pride in the work she does offensively, a dual-threat who can hit for average and power. Halle is someone we have known for some time, having worked closely with her at camp, and we can't wait for her to get to campus.
Before Northwestern: Started all four years at Deerfield High School, a three-time CSL North All-Conference honoree…A career .524 hitter through three seasons with the Warriors, has been named Team and Offensive MVP in each of the past two years…Named Second-Team All-State in Illinois following her junior season in which she hit .618 to go along with a 1.039 slugging percentage, 26 RBI and 41 runs scored….Also played Volleyball during her first year at Deerfield… Has competed for two years with the Beverly Bandits… Daughter of Brad and Jory Mangurten.
