10/24/2019 8:16:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Evanston, Ill- Northwestern fell 1-0 to Minnesota on a cold night by lake Thursday at Martin Stadium in its annual Think Pink game. With the loss Northwestern moves to 5-8-3 overall and to 3-4-2 in conference play on the season.
The Golden Gophers went ahead on a long range shot in the 81st minute with the ball just finding its way into the goal on a deflection off the crossbar. Initially ruled no goal, replay overturned the call on the field to give Minnesota the lead.
Northwestern was not able to close the gap as time expired, their last chance coming on a corner in the final minute, but the shot sailed wide over a sea of Wildcats.
Mackenzie Wood was characteristically reliable in goal, notching 5 saves to bring her to 5 or more saves in in six of the last seven games.
The Wildcats finish the regular season at home this weekend with the Wisconsin Badgers coming to Martin Stadium at 2 p.m. Sunday, looking to secure the eighth seed in the Big Ten and punch their ticket to the Big Ten Tournament.
