EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern played strong against No. 10 Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon at Martin Stadium, but were unable to secure a win and fell 3-1.
Before kickoff, senior Olivia Korhonen celebrated all her seasons with the Wildcats with the team and with her family. She remains a member of one of the winningest classes in NU history.
The 'Cats played strong in the first half matching Wisconsin play for play. In the 20th minute, first year Reilly Riggs scored a header after a perfect corner kick from Lily Gilbertson. It was Riggs' second goal of the season and Gilbertson's second assist.
Throughout the second half the 'Cats played hard, putting up six shots against Wisconsin but were unable to finish.
The Wildcats are now 5-10-3 and 3-6-3 in conference, having possibly played their last game of the season. To qualify for the Big Ten Tournament and a rematch with Wisconsin on Sunday, Northwestern needs Ohio State to tie or lose at Wisconsin and Indiana to lose to Michigan State on Wednesday.
