EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern wrestling is set to travel to battle No. 11 Nebraska on Sunday afternoon in their Big Ten opener. The dual will start at 2 p.m. CT from the Devaney Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The Wildcats will be competing in their first event since the 56th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships, where NU picked up two individual champions for the first time since 2011.
One of the champions, redshirt sophomore Sebastian Rivera (125) knocked off top-ranked Spencer Lee of Iowa in the championship bout. After topping the previously-undefeated Hawkeye grappler, Rivera was awarded Big Ten Wrestler of the Week and USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week honors.
Redshirt sophomore Ryan Deakin (157) was the other Midlands champion for Chicago's Big Ten Team. He is outscoring his competition, 140-41, and is 3-0 against ranked opponents.
