'Cats Host Three Ranked Teams for ITA Kick-Off Weekend

EVANSTON, Ill. – The 20th-ranked Northwestern women's tennis team returns home to the Combe Tennis Center this weekend (Jan. 26-27) to serve as a regional host for the 11th annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kick-Off Weekend.

The opening round of this tournament will be held at 15 different Division I facilities across the nation. Each site hosts four teams, which were assigned in a draft earlier this season. The host teams are ranked as the first seeds, and No.'s 2-4 have been determined by overall national rankings.
Winners of the single-elimination event advance to next month's ITA Division I National Team Indoor Championships held at Washington.
Northwestern welcomes No. 17 Miami (FL), No. 23 Tulsa and No. 22 Central Florida to Evanston. The Wildcats will battle UCF on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT, while Miami and Tulsa will follow at 2 p.m. Winners of each match will square off on Sunday at 2 p.m., while a consolation match is slated for 10 a.m.
Northwestern secured six out of eight singles and took two of four doubles from the Hurricanes earlier this season at the 2019 Miami Invite, held Jan. 11-13, in Coral Gables, Fla.
In one of those six singles, first year Clarissa Hand (no. 100) defeated Miami's Estela Perez- Somarriba (No. 7). The loss was Perez-Somarriba's first home defeat since Sept. 23, 2017, and only her second career loss at home.
Hand and Lee Or teamed up to defeat Miami's Yuna Ito/Ulyana Shirokova Nno. 51) on the second day of the same tournament.
The Wildcats are 1-1 in dual matches this season having topped UIC, 7-0, and falling to No. 16 Kansas, 5-2.
