No. 19 Northwestern Drops 5-2 Decision to No. 16 Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kansas — No. 19 Northwestern suffered its first set back of the dual season, losing to No. 16 Kansas, 5-2, on the road Sunday afternoon.
Julie Byrne and Caroline Pozo picked up NU's points by winning at the No. 2 and No. 6 singles spots, respectively. Byrne topped the No. 34 ranked player in the country Janet Koch in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. After dropping the first set, 2-6, Pozo rallied to beat Maria Toran Ribas in the next two sets, 6-2, 6-3. No. 100 Clarissa Hand fell in three sets to No. 109 Anastasia Rychagova, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
The Jayhawks took the doubles point when No. 27 Anastasia Rychagova and Sonia Smagina topped Julie Byrne and Hannah McColgan, 6-4, and Malkia Ngounoue and Maria Toran Ribas defeated Caroline Pozo/Vanessa Streng, 6-3.
