EVANSTON, Ill. — Sullivan-Ubben Head Men's Basketball Coach Chris Collins has named former Wildcat guard JerShon Cobb as Northwestern's Director of Player Development.

"We are really excited to bring JerShon back home to Northwestern," said Collins. "He is going to be a great role model and mentor for our guys. There is nobody better to help our guys become the best student-athletes they can be than someone who wore the jersey, went to the same classes, lived in the same dorms and played for the same coach. I think he is going to be a tremendous resource for us as we try to improve this basketball program."

"I am extremely excited to be back home," said Cobb. "I want to thank Dr. Jim Phillips, Coach Collins and the Northwestern family for giving me this opportunity. This is an exciting time for Northwestern basketball and I can't wait to do my part to help this program grow towards its full potential."

Cobb graduated from Northwestern in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in African American studies. The Decatur, Georgia, native appeared in 94 games, posting a career scoring average of 8.3 points per game and finished his career with a .405 field goal percentage. Cobb played two seasons under Collins and served as a team captain during the 2014-15 season.

After graduating from Northwestern, Cobb played professionally in the NBA G League and Canadian Basketball League in 2015-16. Cobb spent the last two years (2016-18) coaching AAU basketball and teaching at an elementary school in his hometown of Decatur, Georgia.

Northwestern will open the new Welsh-Ryan Arena on Nov. 2 with an exhibition game against McKendree before beginning the 2018-19 campaign on Nov. 8 when it hosts New Orleans.
