Northwestern Falls to Maryland in Overtime

EVANSTON, Ill. - Camden Buescher scored his third goal of the season in the 61st minute, but Maryland stormed back to defeat Northwestern, 2-1, in overtime on Friday night at Martin Stadium.
The loss drops Northwestern to 4-2-1 overall and 0-1 in Big Ten play, while Maryland improves to 2-2-2 and 1-0 in league action.
After a scoreless first half, Buescher put the Wildcats on top when John Moderwell sent a cross into the box that Maryland defenders cleared only to be intercepted by the senior midfielder for a one-timer from the top of the box.
The Terrapins equalized in the 84th minute on William James Herve's first goal of the match. The goal ended Miha Miskovic's shutout streak of 263:03. The sophomore keeper finished with a season-high six saves.
The goal was the first conceded by Northwestern this season at Martin Stadium.
The Wildcats cleared away two Maryland corner attempts in the final minutes of regulation to send NU to its fourth overtime game of the season. Northwestern was 1-1-1 in overtime games to this point.
Maryland struck five minutes into overtime for its second win on the year. After a scrum in front of the Northwestern net, Herve sent a shot by Miskovic for the golden goal, his second of the match.
Northwestern remains without a regulation loss on the season. The Wildcats will travel to Columbus to take on Ohio State next Friday night (9/21). The match will be streamed on BTN Plus.
