’Cats Top Milwaukee, Earn Panther Invitational Championship

MILWAUKEE — Northwestern earned their third-straight win to start the season with a 3-1 victory against Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon, finishing their stay at the Panther Invitational with a team championship.

After a week off, Northwestern will travel to Hamilton, New York, for their second nonconference tournament of the season. The Wildcats will compete against Princeton, Colgate, and Stephen F. Austin.

TEAM NOTES:

The Wildcats were named the team champion of the Panther Invitational after winning all three matches in their two-day sojourn in Milwaukee.
NU improved to 6-0 all-time against the Panthers.
The 'Cats started their season 3-0 for the fourth time in the last five seasons.
After the conclusion of the match, Kiara McNulty, Abryanna Cannon, and Alana Walker were named to the All-Tournament Team.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES:

Danyelle Williams notched eight kills on 19 attacks with three kills, good for a .263 clip … In her two games so far this season, she has a hitting percentage of .306.
Abryanna Cannon logged a team-high 18 kills, her career high.
Kiara McNulty extended her 40-plus assist skein to three-straight matches with her 46 helpers in the win … She has posted double-doubles in the trio of matches, finishing this contest with 11 digs.
Sarah Johnson has logged 15-plus digs in all three of her matches this season … She added a team-high 22 in the match.
Tatyana Hardwick made her Wildcat debut and her first-ever collegiate start in the match.

MATCH NOTES:

S1 | Despite trailing 22-18 late in the set, the Wildcats ended the match-opener on a 5-0 scoring run to down Milwaukee, 25-23 … The 'Cats held Milwaukee to a .088 hitting percentage in the set … Tatyana Hardwick had two kills in three attacks, while Kiara McNulty had 10 assists … Northwestern accumulated four team blocks.
S2 | Despite an early NU lead, Milwaukee charged back to take the second set, 27-25.
S3 | Northwestern dispatched Milwaukee, 25-20 … The 'Cats picked up six team blocks, with Alana Walker and Abryanna Cannon registering four block assists apiece.
S4 | NU held Milwaukee to only a .020 hitting percentage as the 'Cats won, 25-16 … Olivia Viscuso came in off the bench and logged two kills on two attacks … Nia Robinson had a .375 hitting percentage in the set.
