Doles Named to Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

EVANSTON, Ill. – Senior offensive lineman Tommy Doles was named to the watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy, announced on Thursday. Known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service," the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
In addition to his accomplishments on the field, Doles is a champion with his community outreach work. He is a FuelUp to Play 60 ambassador and the president of Northwestern's ROARR Anti-Bullying Program and Northwestern Uplifting Athletes chapter. Along with those leadership roles, Doles annually visits Lurie's Children Hospital, goes on mission trips, participates in Misericordia's Candy Days and volunteers at Chicago Catholic Charities.
The 106 nominees hail from all 10 Division I FBS conferences and independents. Doles is one of nine Big Ten student-athletes to be represented on the list, including Nick Allegretti [Illinois], Ricky Brookins [Indiana], Taivon Jacobs [Maryland], Khari Willis [Michigan State], Emmit Carpenter [Minnesota], Trace McSorley [Penn State], David Blough [Purdue], and D'Cota Dixon [Wisconsin].
Doles was also named to the Outland Trophy Watch List for the nation's top interior lineman on Tuesday.
The Grand Rapids, Michigan, native was a consensus Third-Team All-Big Ten selection last season and enters his senior with 26-consecutive starts over the last two seasons. As a redshirt sophomore in 2016, Doles earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors from the conference's coaches and media. Doles is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
