EVANSTON, Ill. — Sophomore running back Jeremy Larkin has been named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List, presented annually to the nation's top college running back.
Larkin was one of six Big Ten running backs on the list, including J.K. Dobbins (Ohio State), Karan Higdon (Michigan), Miles Sanders (Penn State), Rodney Smith (Minnesota) and Jonathan Taylor (Wisconsin).
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native was third among first-year running backs last season with 6.0 yards per carry, finishing his debut season with 503 yards and five touchdowns despite just 84 carries as the backup to NU's all-time leading rusher Justin Jackson. Each of Larkin's five touchdowns came in victories for the 'Cats last season.
Larkin finished the season on a high-note, rushing for 329 of his 503 yards over the final five games of the season. He capped his redshirt first year with a season-high 112 yards in the Music City Bowl, marking his first career 100-yard rushing game.
We already know, but the rest of the country will learn.
