Northwestern Shuts Out Iowa, Takes the Series

5/12/2018 5:36:00 PM | Baseball

EVANSTON, Ill. — Hank Christie threw 7.0-scoreless innings, which was broken up by a two-hour rain delay, and Connor Lind went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead Northwestern to a 4-0 win and give the Wildcats a series win.

Northwestern (16-28, 6-17 B1G) picked up its first series win since sweeping Penn State two weeks ago to close out the month of April. Christie's outing was a season-long. The sophomore posted a quality start, only allowing four hits and striking out two.

Iowa (28-18, 9-9 B1G) Brady Schanuel took the loss for the Hawkeyes.

This was Lind's third 3-hit performance of the season.

Northwestern began the scoring in the bottom of the first, beginning with a walk from Jack Claeys, his fourth since Friday. Willie Bourbon with a liner up the middle that deflected off of the pitcher for a single. And with two on and two out, Connor Lind sailed one over the right fielder's head to score the runners and give the 'Cats the lead.

Following a two-hour rain delay in the bottom of the third, Lind came back up to the plate with runners on first and second and singled through the left side to score Jack Dunn and pick up his third RBI of the day.

Zeroes populated the scoreboard for the next two innings.

In the bottom of the sixth, Northwestern loaded the bases for Leo Kaplan, who drove a pitch to right fired that scored Lind on the sacrifice fly to make it a 4-0 game.

Richard Fordon struck out two in 2.0 innings to preserve the win for the Wildcats.

Northwestern will go for the sweep tomorrow at 2 p.m. CT.
