EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern returns to action on Tuesday, April 24, with a trip across town to face UIC at Curtis Granderson Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. CT with WNUR and ESPN3 carrying the action.
Northwestern (9-24) dropped a series to Michigan State over the weekend. Jack Dunn and Willie Bourbon turned it up at the plate against the Spartans. Dunn finished the weekend series with a clip of .417 (5-for-12), raising his season average to a team-best .301. Bourbon batted .500 (5-for-10) with a slugging percentage of .900. The junior first baseman drove in four runs on the weekend and belted a double and his fifth home run of the season.
UIC (20-13) enters Tuesday's tilt on a four game winning streak having swept Northern Kentucky over the weekend. Scott Ota paces the club with 42 hits on the season for a .323 batting average and .523 slugging percentage. The junior has 14 extra-base hits, including six doubles, four triples and four home runs.
UIC is 11-5 at home this season.
The Flames will hand the ball to senior RHP Wyatt Trautwein (1-1, 0.87 ERA) on Tuesday. Trautwein has appeared in seven games this season with a pair of starts. The righty has logged 20.2 innings this season, only allowing a pair of earned runs and nine hits with a 15-to-10 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Trautwein is the cousin of Northwestern's Jack and David Dunn.
Northwestern has tabbed first year LHP Ryan Bader (1-2, 5.32 ERA) as Tuesday's starter. Bader has appeared in 11 contests this season and will be making his second career start on Tuesday. The rookie has 12 strikeouts in 22.0 innings pitched. Bader tossed 2.0 innings against Michigan State (April 21) over the weekend and allowed three hits, one run, while striking out two.
The Wildcats and Flames have had two games this season canceled due to inclement weather. Northwestern leads the all-time series against the Flames, 69-29-1.
