EVANSTON, Ill. — The ninth-ranked Northwestern lacrosse program continues its six-game homestand with a matchup versus No. 4 North Carolina Saturday at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium. The Wildcats and Tar Heels enter the contest with identical 5-2 records. UNC has claimed the last three meetings, but the 'Cats hold an 11-6 advantage in the all-time series.
The Wildcats are coming off a double-digit victory over Marquette last week, 20-9. The 'Cats improved to 5-0 all time versus the Golden Eagles with the win while improving to 5-1 at home this season.
Senior attack Shelby Fredericks matched her career highs with four assists and six points in the Wildcats' win over Marquette last week. The Long Island native also notched double-digit draw controls for the second-straight game with 12.
Sophomore midfielder Megan Kinna has posted three points in each of the last two games. Kinna scored a season-high two goals versus No. 1 Stony Brook on March 3 and dished out a season-high two helpers in the win over Marquette on March 10. The British Columbia native is fifth on the team with 10 points (5g/5a).
Chicago's Big Ten Team held its sixth opponent of the season under 10 goals last week. The Wildcats continue to lead the Big Ten and rank fourth nationally in scoring defense at 7.56 goals per game. The 'Cats are also among the nation's leader in caused turnovers per game, ranking 14th at 11.29 per contest.
NU will wrap up its six-game homestand with the Big Ten opener versus Michigan on March 23 at 7 p.m. and a matchup versus No. 7 Syracuse on March 26 at 1 p.m. Both games will air on national television on the Big Ten Network.
