EVANSTON, Ill. — The No. 11 Northwestern lacrosse program will put its unbeaten record on the line against another ranked foe Sunday afternoon when it battles No. 20 Duke in Durham.
The Wildcats improved to 3-0 on Thursday with an impressive 15-8 win over No. 17 Colorado. The 'Cats are 3-0 for the first time since 2014 and have outscored their opponents 54-17 through three games. The Blue Devils are also unbeaten at 2-0 with wins over No. 21 Elon, 17-9, and Campbell, 18-8.
The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra and the WatchESPN app.
The Wildcats opened the 2018 campaign with a 18-7 win over MEAC preseason favorite Canisius before dominating Detroit, 21-2. Chicago's Big Ten Team picked battled its first ranked foe of the season in No. 17 Colorado and built an 11-1 lead en route to a 15-8 decision.
Junior attack Selena Lasota is back for the Wildcats after missing the final 17 games of 2017 due to injury. Lasota was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after recording nine points (6g/3a) in two games last week. She picked it up a tick Thursday versus No. 17 Colorado, scoring three goals and dishing out a career-high three assists while pulling in six draw controls. Lasota currently leads all Division I players with 15 points.
Combe Family Head Lacrosse Coach Kelly Amonte Hiller is in her 17th season at the helm of the Wildcats seeking her eight national champion as a coach. Amonte Hiller's 268 wins are the ninth most among active Division I coaches.
The Wildcats showed off their high-octane, fast-paced offense last weekend to the tune of 39 goals. The 'Cats finished the weekend with 22 assists on their 39 goals. Their 49 shots versus Canisius were their most since 2007 and the 13 assists versus Detroit Mercy were their most since 14 versus Georgetown on March 5, 2011.
Redshirt first-year goalkeeper Julie Krupnick has started the last three games for the 'Cats and has impressed in the cage. Krupnick made a season-high five saves and picked up four ground balls in the win over Colorado earlier this week. She enters Sunday's game first in the Big Ten and eighth nationally with a goals-against average of 6.00.
