Wildcats Take on First Ranked Foe in #16 Colorado Thursday

EVANSTON, Ill. — Fresh off an impressive 2-0 start to the 2018 campaign, the Northwestern lacrosse program will battle its first ranked opponent of the season on Thursday, Feb. 15 when it plays host to No. 16 Colorado at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium.
The Buffaloes (1-1) are led by former Wildcats star and associate head coach Ann Elliott. This will be the fourth meeting between the programs, with the 'Cats holding a 2-1 edge.
Opening draw for Thursday's contest is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast live on BTN Plus on the BTN2Go app. Tickets are available on NUSports.com and parking is available in the North garage of the Henry Crown Sports Pavillion for $8.
Northwestern opened the 2018 campaign with a pair of impressive wins over MEAC preseason favorite Canisius, 18-7, and Detroit Mercy, 21-2. The Wildcats' improved to 16-1 in season openers under Combe Family Head Lacrosse Coach Kelly Amonte Hiller with the win over the Golden Griffins.
Junior attack Selena Lasota returned to the field after missing the final 17 games of last season and immediately returned to her dominating form. Lasota finished the weekend with nine points (six goals, three assists), three ground balls and a team-high seven draw controls and was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
NU will play its third-straight home game to the start the season Thursday versus No. 16 Colorado before hitting the road for the first time Sunday to take on No. 19 Duke. The 'Cats return home for six straight following their matchup versus the Blue Devils.
The Wildcats showed off their high-octane, fast-paced offense last weekend to the tune of 39 goals. The 'Cats finished the weekend with 22 assists on their 39 goals. Their 49 shots versus Canisius were their most since 2007 and the 13 assists versus Detroit Mercy were their most since 14 versus Georgetown on March 5, 2011.
After one week of the play, Northwestern ranks first in the country in draw controls per game (19.0) and scoring margin (15.0), second in assists per game (11.0), caused turnovers per game (16.0), points per game (30.5), scoring offense (19.5 and shots per game (33.5). The 'Cats are third in scoring defense (4.50).
