Rivera, Deakin, Jennings Set for #Midlands56 Finals

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Three Wildcats are set to wrestle in the finals of the 56th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships on Sunday night. First-, third-, and fifth-place bouts will start at 7 p.m. CT at the Sears Centre Arena.
Sebastian Rivera (125), Ryan Deakin (157), and Conan Jennings (285) each punched their tickets to the first-place bout at the elite holiday event.
True first-year Lucas Davison (197) and redshirt first-year Yahya Thomas (141) will wrestle in this evening's third-place bouts.
Sophomore Colin Valdiviez (133) notched a seventh-place finish with a grind-it-out, 1-0 decision over Wisconsin's Jens Lantz.
Rivera, the second-ranked wrestler at 125 lbs., will meet up with the top-ranked Spencer Lee of Iowa in the championship bout. Rivera has notched tech falls in all four of his victories so far this tournament.
Deakin easily dispatched Illinois' Eric Barone, 9-3, in the semifinals, to clinch his berth into the finals. Jennings, however, needed an extra burst of drama in his bout, utilizing a short-time two-point near-fall against Mason Parris (Michigan - Unattached) to log a 6-4 victory.
