Northwestern Heads West for Duel in the Desert

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern (6-3) will travel to Las Vegas for the Duel in Desert Tournament at UNLV, Dec. 19-20. With two divisions in the tournament, the Wildcats enter the Desert Division with Wichita State, Kansas and Washington St. and will compete against Wichita State on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 7 pm CST.
Northwestern is coming off a 97-35 win over Chicago State in packed Welsh-Ryan Arena for Field Trip Day. The new arena saw over 5,500 attendees from students and faculty in the Evanston area.
Six Wildcats posted double-digit figures against the Cougars: Sydney Wood (14) , Lindsey Pulliam (14), Veronica Burton (13), Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah (13), Abbie Wolf (12), Amber Jamison (10). In the first half, the Wildcats put up 54 points, the most points in a half scored this season.
The first years made a significant impact for the 'Cats on Monday afternoon. Sydney Wood got her first career start and notched a career high 14 points with five assists while Veronica Burton finished the day shooting 75 percent from the field, sinking three of her four from beyond the arc and tallied 13 points. Twelve Wildcats contributed points in Monday's win.
Northwestern totaled 22 steals, which ties the previous record in the Joe McKeown era which was set against Chicago State in 2014.

- The Wichita State Shockers (6-4) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 70-61 win over Grambling State.
- This is the first meeting all-time between the two teams.
- The Shockers are led by head Coach Keisha Adams, who is in her second season with the program
- Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage is the team's leading scorer, averaging 9.9 ppg.
