Six Wildcats Post Double-Digit Figures in Chicago State Win

EVANSTON, Ill. – Spurred on by the cheers of over 4,000 Evanston area students, Northwestern defeated Chicago State 97-35, breaking 90 points for the second time this season.

From tip to the final buzzer, the Wildcats controlled the the game. The 'Cats started the game with a 10-0 run and ended the first quarter with a 15 point lead.

The 'Cats closed out the first half on a 20-0 run and remained dominant after the break, starting the second half with an 16-0 run over the first 7:09 in the third quarter.

Northwestern tallied a total of 22 steals, which ties the previous record in the Joe McKeown era of 22 which was set against Chicago State in the 2014 season.

First-year Sydney Wood and sophomore Lindsey Pulliam led the 'Cats swarm of six players with double-digit scoring with 14. First-year Veronica Burton and senior Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah tallied 13, junior Abbie Wolf added 12 and Amber Jamison posted 10. The six accounted for 76 of the Wildcats 97 points. The 'Cats has 12 players contribute to their overall point total.

As a team. Northwestern shot 52.95% from the field, a season high while also continuing their overwhelming defensive effort, forcing 27 turnovers from Chicago State. 

The 'Cats will be back on the court Dec. 19 at the Duel in the Desert as they take on Wichita State at 7 pm in Las Vegas, NV for the Duel in the Desert Tournament. 

Individual Notes
·  Senior Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah lead with a game high 8 rebounds, helping the 'Cats out rebounding Chicago State 46-33.
·  Veronica Burton shot 75% from behind the arc sinking three of her four shots to help get her to 13 total points for the game.
·  First year Sydney Wood had game-highs with 14 points and five assists, both of which were also career-highs.

Team Notes
· The Wildcats put up 54 points in the first half, which is the highest scoring half the Wildcats have had this season
· Northwestern scored 80 points through the third quarter. This is the most the 'Cats have scored in three since scoring 74 points against Minnesota on Jan. 20, 2016.
· The 'Cats grabbed a season-high 11 blocks, while also securing the win with 25 assists finishing the game shooting 52.9% from the field and 66.7% from the free throw line
