EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern took home another round of postseason honors with three Wildcats earning spots on Scholar All-Region teams as well a Scholar All-America selection for senior Kayla Sharples, as announced by United Soccer Coaches today.

Senior Kayla Sharples was also named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America third team for the second season in a row as well as being named to the Scholar All-North/Central first team.

Senior Marisa Viggiano was also selected to the Scholar All-North/Central Region first team, while fellow senior Hannah Davison was selected to the third team. All three players also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors last week.

In addition, Sharples also earned a spot on the TopDrawerSoccer Best XI third team, placing her as one of the best 12 defenders in the country.

All three players were part of the most distinguished class in Northwestern history, leading the program to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances and its first ever Big Ten Championship in 2016.

Sharples helped Northwestern post eight shutouts this season and also scored three goals as a defender. She started all 87 games possible in her career, which amounted to the second-longest games-started streak in program history.

Viggiano tallied two goals and five assists in her senior campaign, and brought her career assist total to 20, the second-highest total all-time in program history. She started the first 82 games in a row of her career as well for the third-longest streak in Northwestern history

Davison anchored the defense as a center back this season, and helped Northwestern set the record for longest shutout streak in program history, clocking in at 658:42 minutes. Davison started the last 73 matches in a row for the Wildcats and along with Sharples, posted 47 shutouts in her four years at the program.

Sharples added to her postseason honors list, which already included a first team All-Big Ten selection as well as a spot on the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region first team. Viggiano was also a first team All-Big Ten honoree and finished on the second team All-North Region.
