EVANSTON, Ill. – The Northwestern fencing team is set for its first dual meet of the 2018-19 campaign with the Vassar Invitational in Poughkeepsie, New York this Sunday, November 11th.
The Wildcats will battle City College of New York, Fairleigh Dickinson, Sacred Heart, Haverford, Wellesley, Stevens, Lafayette, and Wagner. There will be nine 5-point bouts per weapon, with three fencers from each school.
"The team is prepared and excited for our first duals of the season," said head coach Zach Moss. "This is great first meet for our team to learn and build from, so we can't wait to compete and see how everyone performs."
The #B1GCats have posted perfect 8-0 records at the Vassar Invitational each of the past two years. Last season, eight Wildcats posted double-digit wins in the event, paced by Ashley Gomerman's perfect 14-0 record in saber. Jacqueline Hua, Zhesi Zhuang, and Sofia Simontov also posted double-digit wins.
Junior Pauline Hamilton will also look to continue her impressive campaign. The Colorado Springs, Colo. native posted top-two finishes in each of NU's individual events to start the season.
