EVANSTON, Ill. – Seniors Kayla Sharples and Marisa Viggiano both earned spots on the All-North Region Teams, as announced this week by United Soccer Coaches.

Sharples was named as a defender to the First Team All-North Region, further cementing her legacy as one of the greatest Northwestern defenders ever. Earlier this season, she earned her third straight First Team All-Big Ten selection, and she previously was named to the All-Great Lakes Region First Team in 2016.

Viggiano was named as a midfielder to the Second Team All-North Region, adding another honor to her resume as one of the best Wildcat midfielders of all time. She also was selected to the First Team All-Big Ten for the second straight season, and she was previously named to the All-Great Lakes Region Third Team in 2016.

Sharples helped Northwestern post eight shutouts this season and also scored three goals as a defender. She finished her NU career with 47 shutouts and started every one of the 87 games possible, which amounted to the second-longest games-started streak in program history.

Viggiano tallied two goals and five assists in her senior campaign, and brought her career assist total to 20, the second-highest total all-time in program history. She started the first 82 games in a row of her career, all alongside Sharples, for the third-longest streak in NU history.

Both Viggiano and Sharples were integral members of the most successful class to ever play at Northwestern. They helped win the team's first ever Big Ten title in 2016, and appeared in a program-record four-straight NCAA Tournaments.
