Seeking to continue their momentum after back-to-back wins at the Wooden Legacy in Fullerton, California, the Wildcats host Georgia Tech in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge Wednesday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Here are some stories to watch…
Charity Stripe: Northwestern has reached the free throw line 159 times and made 118 free throws this year, both totals rank second in the Big Ten – entering the week. The Wildcats' transfers have paced the team at the charity stripe. Graduate transfer Ryan Taylor has the best free throw percentage in the Big Ten shooting 93.8 percent (15-for-16), while redshirt junior A.J. Turner has made 14 consecutive free throws and ranks second in the Big ten with a 92.6 percent (16-for-18) clip from the line. Senior Vic Law leads the Cats with 29 made free throws. The redshirt senior made a career-high 14 against La Salle (Nov. 23), it was the most free throws made by an NU player in a single game since at least 2011.
Rule of Law: Forward Vic Law has been off to a dominant start to the 2018-19 campaign. The redshirt senior has scored in double figures in every game this season, including two performances with over 20 points. Law dropped a combined 40 in the wins over La Salle and Utah at the Wooden Legacy, hitting an impressive 14 free throws in the win over La Salle (Nov. 23) and four three-pointers in the most recent contest against Utah (Nov. 25). He is also leading the team outright in both assists and blocks for the season, and ranks second in rebounds behind only Dererk Pardon.
Just Can't Miss: Senior Dererk Pardon has been finding the basket with almost everything he has put up this season. The center has made all nine of his field goal attempts over the past two contests, including his first career made three-pointer, which came in the win over Utah (Nov. 25). The Cleveland native is the active Big Ten leader in career field goal percentage, holding a .624 mark over his four seasons in Evanston. Pardon has made over half of his shots in five of six games so far this year, and has missed no more than one shot in four of them. He also leads the team with 9.5 rebounds per game and a pair of double-doubles.
