Slater Leads Four Wildcats Named to All-Big Ten Team on Offense

EVANSTON, Ill. — Sophomore right tackle Rashawn Slater was named Third-Team All-Big Ten by the conference's coaches to lead four Northwestern Wildcats named to the All-Big Ten Team on offense Wednesday evening.
Slater started all 12 games for the Big Ten West Division champion Wildcats and ranks No. 1 among Big Ten tackles with at least 375 snaps with a pass-blocking efficiency rating of 98.5. He has allowed just one sack and 13 total pressures in 475 snaps this season, according to Pro Football Focus. A native of Sugar Land, Texas, Slater is the fourth-rated offensive tackle in the Big Ten according to PFF with an overall rating of 79.2 and was penalized just one time all season.
In addition to Slater's Third-Team plaudit, senior quarterback Clayton Thorson, senior wide receiver Flynn Nagel and junior superback Cam Green all earned honorable mention honors.
Thorson was named to the All-Big Ten Team by the coaches and media for the third-straight year after leading finishing the regular season fourth in the league in passing yards (2,675) and completions per game (20.92) and fifth in passing yards per game (222.9). He threw 12 touchdown passes and rushed for eight more, which ranked second among Big Ten quarterbacks and ninth overall. The senior captain set the Big Ten record for starts by a quarterback with his 51-consecutive start versus Illinois in the regular-season finale. He ranks sixth in Big Ten history with 10,232 yards passing.
Nagel was among the Big Ten and national leaders in total receptions before missing the majority of the final two games of the season due to injury. Prior to the injury, Nagel ranked 21st in the country and third in the league in total receptions and was fifth in the Big Ten in receiving yards. Despite the missed time, the Lemont, Illinois, native still finished the regular season seventh in the conference in receptions per game (5.3), receiving yards (746) and receiving yards per game (62.2).
Green was among the best tight-end eligible players in the league, ranking 12th in the Big Ten in receptions per game (3.8). He finished the regular season with career highs in receptions (46), receiving yards (411) and touchdowns (3). This marks the fourth-straight season a NU superback has earned All-Big Ten honors as Green joined Garrett Dickerson (2016-17) and Dan Vitale (2015).
Northwestern ended the regular season winning seven of its last eight games to finish 8-1 in conference play, secure a Big Ten West division title and clinch a berth in the 2018 Big Ten Championship versus No. 6 Ohio State on Saturday, Dec. 1.
