Wildcats Douse Flames in 87-44 Win

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern cruised to a dominating 43-point lead in their decisive 87-44 win over cross-town foe UIC Thursday night at the new Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Sophomore Lindsey Pulliam tallied a season-high 22 points, going up one on last game's showing. She added a rebound and an assist.
Three other Wildcats recorded double-digit performances, with Abi Scheid scoring 16, Bryana Hopkins 14, and Jess Sancataldo 10.
With nine assists, junior Byrdy Galernik set a career-high. She also tallied eight points in her first start this season
Northwestern proved their dominance from the beginning, leading by ten points going into the second quarter. Sophomore Lindsay Pulliam tallied 10 of the Wildcats' 22 points in the opening frame.
By the end of the first half, the 'Cats increased their lead to a commanding 20 points. Pulliam and junior Bryana Hopkins added six more points each, finishing out the half 44-24.
The points kept adding up, and Northwestern entered the fourth quarter up 61-32. The 'Cats tallied up game-high 26 more points for a 87-44 win. First-years Jess Sancataldo and Courtney Shaw took their chances to make an impact, with Sancataldo sinking her first and second career three-point shots, and Shaw adding the first points and first rebound of her collegiate career.
The Wildcats return to the court Sunday at 1 p.m., traveling to Gainesville to take on Florida.

- Courtney Shaw hit the court for the first time as a Wildcat, recording her first-career point and rebound.
