Northwestern Set to Take on Cross Town Foe UIC Thursday Night

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern will face off against UIC in the new Welsh-Ryan Arena on Thursday, November 15. Tip-off is set for 7.p.m.
 
The Wildcats have started the season strong with a 2-0 record with wins over teams that made the NCAA Tournament last year, UW Green-Bay and Duke. 

Northwestern defeated a No. 21 Duke team, 84-58 to mark its 10thstraight victory in a home opener.
 
The Wildcats scored 18 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, increasing its lead to 82-54. When Duke reached ten fouls in the fourth quarter, NU went to the line to shoot 19 free throws in the quarter. The 'Cats shot 83 percent from the line during the contest.
 
The three captains lead the way in the new Welsh-Ryan Arena. Sophomore Lindsey Pulliam led the team in scoring with 21 points and added five rebounds and four assists to the stat sheet while Senior Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 17 rebounds. Junior Abi Scheid posted a season high of 18 points and four assists. 
 
In addition, Sophomore Jordan Hamilton added an impressive 18 points, four steals, and four assists, and first-year Veronica Burton contributed eight points and three steals. 
 
Northwestern looks to add another win to its record this Thursday against cross town opponent UIC. Tickets for Thursday night's game and the rest of the season can be found here.
 
Scouting the opponent:
 
  • UIC (1-0) has started its season with a win over Valparaiso at home. They are starting a new era with head coach Tasha Pointer and returning four starting seniors this season. 
  • Brittany Byrd, UIC's leading scorer, averaged 14.8 ppg last season while Taylor Toney averaged 13.7 ppg and led the Flames in assists (73 total) and steals (70 total). UIC went 8-22 in their 2017-2018 season. 
  • This will be the first time Northwestern faces UIC since the 2016-2017 season, where the Wildcats recorded a 88-44 win.
