EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern took home four end-of-year awards as announced by the Big Ten, highlighted by two First Team selections.

Seniors Marisa Viggiano and Kayla Sharples were both named to the All-Big Ten First Team. Senior Brenna Lovera was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team while first year Mackenzie Wood was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. Senior Aspyn Repp was also honored with the Big Ten Sportmanship Award.

Sharples earned her third straight selection to the All-Big Ten First Team as a center back, becoming just the third player in program history to make three first teams along with Erica Westrich (1996-98) and Molly Green (2001-03).

Sharples helped Northwestern post eight shutouts this year and scored three goals as a defender. In her four years at Northwestern, the team has posted 47 shutouts in 86 games, all of which Sharples has started in for the second-longest games-started streak in program history. Her six career game-winning goals are tied for the fifth-most in program history.

Viggiano made her second straight All-Big Ten First Team after doing so in 2017. She also was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team in 2015. She tallied two goals and five assists this year and her 20 career assists are tied for the second-most in program history.

Lovera led the team on offense this season with eight goals and three assists to earn her first All-Big Ten selection onto the Second Team. Her goal-scoring production was tied for third-best in the conference, and she had the best offensive season of her four-year career.

Lovera's eight goals and 19 points in 2018 are tied for the sixth-best and eighth-best total in a season, respectively, in program history. Her 19 career goals and 45 career points are the sixth-best and tenth-best marks, respectively, all-time at Northwestern. Her 12 career game-winning goals are a program record, and four better than the previous list-topper.

Wood finished the season on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team after posting eight shutouts, tied for the most in the conference. Wood maintained the best save percentage in the conference (.854) while tallying the fourth-most saves (70). Her goals-against average of 0.63 was the second-best mark in the league as well.

Repp, the Sportsmanship Award honoree, stepped up in a massive way this season in the Northwestern midfield to start the last five games of the season, while appearing in 15 overall.

The #B1GCats have wrapped up their regular season, but await the decisions of the NCAA Tournament selection committee on Nov. 5, 2018 for potential postseason play.
