'Cats Shutout No. 13 Michigan State, Earn Road Point

10/19/2018 8:48:00 PM | Men's Soccer

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Sophomore Miha Miskovic picked up his eighth shutout of the season and helped Northwestern earn a road point in a 0-0 result against No. 13 Michigan State.

"It was a very good result against an excellent team," said head coach Tim Lenahan. "We started all five first years tonight and I was proud of our effort. After we weathered the storm in the first half, we played some very good soccer in the second half. Michigan State owned the overtime but Miha Miskovic was exceptional on the night with a couple highlight saves. We will recover tomorrow, take a much needed day off on Sunday before getting ready for a good Wisconsin team next Wednesday."

Northwestern moves to 4-7-5 on the campaign and 0-4-3 in Big Ten play, while Michigan State is not 10-2-3 overall and 4-1-2 in league action.

Miskovic faced 22 shots in the effort and made seven saves. His eight shutouts this season move him into a tie with Tyler Miller's 2014 mark for fourth all-time on the program's single-season list.

Bardia Kimiavi led the way for Northwestern with three shots, two of which were on target. Matt Moderwell also put a pair of attempts on net. The #B1GCats finished with six of their eight shots on net.

Northwestern outshot the Spartans in the second half, 5-4, but MSU finished with a 22-8 advantage.

The Wildcats will close out Big Ten play on Oct. 24 at Martin Stadium when Wisconsin visits for a 7 p.m. CT contest.
