AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — The Detroit Pistons have signed former Northwestern guard Reggie Hearn to a two-way contract, the team announced on Sunday.
"It's been a whirlwind the last couple of days," Hearn admitted in his first media availability with the Pistons. "It was only two days ago I was a Reno Big Horn; now I'm a Detroit Piston-slash-Grand Rapids Drive member. But that's the way this basketball world works. You've just got to be ready."
Hearn has played in 14 games with the Reno Bighorns of the NBA G League this season, averaging 14.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 30.7 minutes per game. He has played in 175 NBA G League games over his career with the Idaho Stampede, Westchester Knicks and Bighorns averaging 10.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 26.7 minutes per game.
This past August, Hearn was named to the official 12-member, 2017 USA Basketball Men's AmeriCup Team, led by former NBA head coach Jeff Van Gundy. The team finished 5-0 and won the gold medal. Hearn averaged 10.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 47.1 percent from the field and 47.6 percent (10-of-21) from 3-point territory.
Hearn's NBA debut could come on Wednesday, Jan. 17, when the Pistons head on the road to play the Toronto Raptors at 6:30 p.m. CT.
Per NBA rules, teams are permitted to have two Two-Way players on their roster at any given time, in addition to their 15-man regular season roster. Two-Way players for the Pistons will provide services primarily for the Grand Rapids Drive, the team's G League affiliate, but can spend up to 45 days with the Pistons, not including any time prior to the start of the Drive's training camp and at the conclusion of their season.
