BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — No. 19 Northwestern (10-4, 5-4 Big Ten) finished its Big Ten slate in resounding fashion, rocking Indiana (6-10, 0-9 Big Ten), 27-12, at University Gym on Sunday afternoon.
Â
The Wildcats picked up their fifth Big Ten victory, their most in one season since logging six in the 2010-11 campaign.
Â
No. 10 Sebastian Rivera (125) kicked off the festivities with a win by fall in 4:11 over Elijah Oliver. Rivera improved his mark to 22-3 with the early victory.
Â
Colin Valdiviez (133) picked up his 15th victory of the season in a conservative bout against Indiana's Garrett Pepple. An early Valdiviez takedown gave him a 2-0 advantage, but he was unable to escape from bottom in the second period.
Â
Pepple chose to start the third period on top again and accumulated riding time, but was unable to score any points against Valdiviez, whose 3-1 decision win added three team points to the NU cause.
Â
No. 5 Ryan Deakin (149) delivered Northwestern's second pin of the dual, a 1:21 fall over A.J. Raya. For Deakin, it was his fastest pin of the season and his team-high seventh win by fall of the campaign.
Â
Fresh off of late-dual dramatics against No. 22 Purdue, Shayne Oster (157) dominated his matchup against Jake Danishek, a 2017 NCAA Championships qualifier, winning via 9-2 decision.
Â
Mitch Sliga (184) got NU back to its winning ways, coming back from a 2-1 deficit to top Norman Conley via 5-2 decision.
Â
Zack Chakonis (197) added another win to his ledger, posting a 6-1 decision over Jake Kleimola, to seal the victory for the Wildcats.
Â
In a scoreless bout entering the third period, Conan Jennings (285) turned on the jets late, posting a late-time takedown of Fletcher Miller to log a 4-2 decision victory — his second win of the weekend.
Â
NU finishes up its dual slate with a non-conference competition against SIUE next Sunday, February 18. It will begin at 2 p.m. CT.
