EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern will look to keep rolling through the heart of Big Ten play when it heads to the state of Indiana for a pair of conference matchups over the weekend.
First, the Wildcats play at Indiana on Thursday night at 7 p.m. CT live on Big Ten Network. Then, NU heads to West Lafayette to take on Purdue at noon CT on Sunday.
Chicago's Big Ten Team is coming off a four-point weekend where it drew 0-0 with No. 12 Rutgers at home before beating Maryland 2-0, also at Martin Stadium. The 'Cats are riding a three-match unbeaten streak after also taking down (rv) Ohio State on Sept. 17, 1-0, in Columbus.
Northwestern (5-4-2, 2-1-1) has climbed to a third-place tie in the Big Ten Standings with seven points, trailing just Penn State (10) and Ohio State (9).
Indiana (5-4-2, 1-1-1) holds a win over Michigan State, a draw with Purdue, and a loss to Michigan so far in Big Ten play. The Hoosiers have a marquee win over then-No. 23 SMU, 1-0, on the road.
Purdue (7-2-1, 2-0-1) sits tied for third with Northwestern. The Boilermakers beat Michigan and Michigan State before drawing with Indiana. The team's two losses are to common opponents Loyola Marymount, which NU drew with 2-2, and Cincinnati, who beat NU, 2-1.
SERIES HISTORY
The last 13 meetings between Northwestern and Indiana have been incredibly close, with the largest margin of victory in any contest just one goal. Three of the last four have gone to double OT. Indiana leads the all-time series 11-10-3 overall and 5-4-2 in Bloomington.
Purdue leads the all-time series with Northwestern, 14-5-0, and 7-2-0 in West Lafayette. Two of Northwestern's five all-time wins over the Boilermakers have come in the last two years, 2-0 at home in 2016 and 1-0 on the road in 2015.
ASSISTING OTHERS
Marisa Viggiano recorded her third and fourth assists of the season when she provided the service for both goals in a 2-0 win over Maryland on Sunday. Her 11 career assists are the most out of any active Wildcat. Viggiano has 17 career points, including two penalty kick goals, the second-highest total on the current roster behind Brenna Lovera (19). The junior is now tied for seventh in program history in career assists, matching Brooke Bell, Shannon Schneeman, and Erica Westrich.
