Northwestern Announces 2018 Schedule

EVANSTON, Ill. – Head Coach Arvid Swan announced Northwestern's 2018 schedule on Thursday, a slate that includes six matches against top-20 teams from last season.
The Wildcats are coming off a fifth straight 20-win campaign, which extended the program record. They reached the second round of the NCAA tournament for the third consecutive year and sent two individuals to the NCAA singles tournament.
The 2018 regular season will get underway on Jan. 18 with a home match against NC State. The Wolfpack posted a record of 14-15 last year and will be led by new head coach Kyle Spencer. NU took last season's match on the road, 6-1.
Chicago's Big Ten Team will follow up the home opener with a trip to Boise State on Jan. 21, after which it will visit Oklahoma for ITA Kickoff Weekend. The 'Cats will face the 13th-ranked Sooners on Jan. 27, followed by either No. 19 Georgia Tech or No. 20 Illinois on the 28th. The winner of the quad will advance to the National Indoor Team Championships the weekend of Feb. 16-19.
Northwestern will stay on the road for a match at Duke on Feb. 4, and will visit No. 15 Oklahoma State on Feb. 9 before returning to Evanston.
The first of three home Sunday doubleheaders on the season will pit the Wildcats against Notre Dame and Chicago State on Feb. 11. Louisville and IUPUI will come to Evanston on Feb. 18 as Chicago's Big Ten Team hosts its second doubleheader. Following that will be a home tilt against Vanderbilt on Feb. 23, before a visit to Harvard two days later.
Big Ten play will begin on March 9 as the 'Cats return home to face No. 20 Illinois in Evanston. They will then play host to Indiana on March 11 in the final doubleheader, which will also feature a match against UIC.
Northwestern then goes out on a four-match road trip with contests against Texas Tech [March 28], Nebraska [March 30], Iowa [April 1] and Purdue [April 4]. Home matches against Michigan State [April 6] and No. 17 Michigan [April 8] will follow.
The Wildcats will then face Penn State on the road April 13, before playing the fourth-ranked Buckeyes in Columbus on April 15. They will return to Evanston for the last two matches of the regular season with home conference tilts against Minnesota [April 20] and Wisconsin [April 22].
The Big Ten Tournament will be held in Iowa City from April 26-29. The first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament will follow on May 11-12 at regional sites before the Round of 16 and on are held in Winston-Salem, N.C. from May 17-28.
