
Northwestern Hosts Ohio State Friday to Open Big Ten Play

EVANSTON, Ill. -- No. 14 Northwestern opens its Big Ten season Friday when it hosts Ohio State at Lakeside Field. The contest gets underway at 3:15 p.m.
The contest is NU's third during a four-game homestand which culminates with a contest against Louisville next Tuesday.
Northwestern (4-3) is seeking its third straight victory after starting off its home season with a pair of victories last weekend. The Wildcats trounced Temple, 9-1, last Friday before holding off Kent State for a 2-1 win on Sunday.
Junior midfielder Puck Pentenga led the way for NU, posting a goal and four assists in the two contests, including assisting on both of the goals in Sunday's victory. She enters play this weekend tied for fourth in the Big Ten with a team-leading five assists while ranking first in the league with 36 shots.
In goal, first-year starter Annie Kalfas has been impressive. She ranks first in the Big Ten with an average of 5.90 saves per game, tied for first with two shutouts, second with an .837 save percentage and third with a 1.78 goals-against average.
Northwestern won last year's matchup with Ohio State, 5-1, in Columbus on Sept. 16. The Wildcats have won the last four meetings between the schools and is 32-27-1 all-time against the Buckeyes.
Scouting Ohio State
The Buckeyes are off to a 3-2 start to their season under first-year head coach Jarred Martin. Maddy Humphrey is the lone Ohio State player to score multiple goals this season as she leads the team with three. In goal, Liz Tamburro sports a 1.57 goals-against average with a .692 save percentage. The Wildcats and the Buckeyes have one common opponent to date in Kent State. NU defeated the Golden Flashes, 2-1, while the Buckeyes lost to Kent State by the same score Sept. 5 in Columbus.
