TAMPA, Fla. — Northwestern salvaged the second half of its Saturday double-header, topping Arkansas-Pine Bluff three sets to none.
The Wildcats will return home to Evanston with a 2-1 record after defeating both UAPB and South Florida in the USF Invitational.
Chicago's Big Ten Team was exceedingly efficient in the match, mounting a hitting percentage of .381 compared to the .029 mark of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Northwestern's offensive performance was highlighted by first-year Nia Robinson, who tied the 10th-best hitting percentage in a single game in Northwestern history (with Katie Dutchman's mark in August 2012 against Marquette). She hit at a .727 clip with eight kills, no errors, and 11 attacks.
With the quick, half-hour turn around in between the UAPB and LSU matches, Northwestern had a change in its starting rotation with Rachael Fara and Emily Ehman beginning the match in the lineup.
Northwestern quickly took care of the first set, topping the Lady Lions, 25-14. The Wildcats mounted a .222 hitting percentage compared to UAPB's mark of .036, with senior Gabrielle Hazen leading the effort with four kills in six attempts.
The 'Cats were even more dominant in the second set, including an eight-unanswered-point run that that took the score to 24 to nine. Northwestern would finish the set, 25-10.
First-year Alana Walker stole the show in the third and final set, registering six kills on six attacks. First-year Britt Bommer made her Northwestern debut in the third set, dishing out four helpers. The Wildcats won, 25-14.
NU will return to action Friday, Sept. 1, in Durham, N.C., for a doubleheader against South Carolina and Duke.
