EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern will look to continue its strong start to the 2017 season with a pair of matches on the West Coast, beginning Thursday at Long Beach State. That match is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. CT, and the road trip concludes with a 2 p.m. match at Loyola Marymount on Sunday.

The Wildcats are coming off a 3-0 victory at Illinois State, led by Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week Madi Kennel, who scored the first two goals of her career to lead the 'Cats to the victory. Fellow newcomer McKenna Angotti scored Northwestern's third goal in a match the Wildcats dominated from start to finish.

Long Beach State (0-1-1) opened its season with a 1-1 overtime draw against CSUN. The Beach followed that up with a 5-1 loss to UCLA.

Loyola Marymount (1-1-0) started the year with a 3-0 loss to Rutgers before bouncing back with a 2-1 victory over Purdue.

Northwestern will play both teams for the first time in program history.

NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Chicago's Big Ten Team is featured in the top-25 of both major national polls this week, coming in at No. 16 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com poll and 22nd in the United Soccer Coaches' ranking. The Wildcats' No. 16 ranking by Top Drawer Soccer is the highest in that poll's seven-year history.

CAN'T SCORE ON CLEM
Senior Lauren Clem holds the Northwestern program record for career shutouts with 41. After her record-breaking 2016 performance with 17 shutouts, she is now just 14 away from tying the all-time NCAA record of 55, set by Katelyn Rowland (UCLA) from 2011-14.

PRESEASON ACCOLADES
Northwestern was picked second in the annual Big Ten Coaches' Preseason Poll, released Aug. 14. The Wildcats came in just behind preseason favorite Penn State, who they will play in front of a national TV audience in University Park, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 14 on BTN. Rutgers, Michigan, and Minnesota round out the top-five preseason selections. Goalkeeper Lauren Clem and defenders Hannah Davison and Kayla Sharples were named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List, also voted on by the conference coaches.
